How to convert a resolver to a Quadrature Encoder

If you have a machine with resolvers on the axes, and you want to connect to a CNC control that accepts quadrature encoders, Pico Systems has a product that will do what you need.

A resolver is a device that measures angle by varying magnetic coupling as the shaft rotates. It has to be excited with an AC signal, and two signals are brought out that vary in amplitude as the shaft is rotated. Our converter board provides the excitation and senses the signals sent back by the resolver. It then provides differential A and B quadrature and and index pulse. There are jumpers on the board to adjust for different transformer ratios of different resolver models. This unit runs from a single 5V DC supply and also provides a fault signal that can be wired into the machine’s E-Stop chain. See :
